The 11th East Coast Trail Tely Hike

More Guided Hikes: Four in all

View north from Father Troy's TrailFor the 2011 ECT Tely Hike we have more hikes planned. The four guided hikes planned will give all hikers a great experience while allowing some choice in level of hiking difficulty.

Registration will take place at the Kinsmen Centre starting at 8 am on Saturday, June 4th. Coffee, tea and hot chocolate will be provided as individuals register and teams gather.

The bus will start at 8:30 am to take hikers to the appropriate trailhead.

9 km Moderate

Father Troy's Path, including the Church Cove Loop addition.

Early morning ice on Church Cove River Falls An exhilarating 3.5 hour hike offering a variety of vistas - barren rock outcrop, headland views, impressive perpendicular cliffs, through forest path, an old heritage road passing through idyllic farm and grazing land along green hillsides to a beach at the head of Torbay bite.

8.5 km Easy/Moderate

Father Troy's Path, excluding the Church Cove Loop addition

An exhilarating 3 hour hike offering a similar experience as the previous hike except the group will by-pass the descent into and the ascent out of the new Church Cove Loop extension. If you don't like steep stairs, choose this hike.

6.5 km Easy

Father Troy's Path, Torbay to Little Gallows Cove (return)

Torbay Point in distance, East Coast Trail

Leaving on foot from the Kinsmen Centre this 2 hour hike will take hikers to Big Beach where they will pick up the path that leads out of town with Torbay Bite down below on the right and houses and farmland to the left. The path descends into Tappers Cove and then it's back up to grazing land and green hillsides. There are several lovely grand views across the bay to Torbay Point.

4 km Easy

Silver Mine Head Path, Middle Cove to North Pond River (return)

Brook near Middle Cove Beach, East Coast Trail

This pleasant 2-2.5 hour hike starts and ends at Middle Cove Beach Park. It offers the enjoyment of a sandy beach at Middle Cove, and the isolation of coastal meadows and forested sections. The hike will return to Middle Cove Beach once North Pond Brook has been reached at 2 km mark.

For All Hikes

Stepping stones on the way to Church Cove

  • Hikers will be required to sign a waiver.
  • There will be a guide, an experienced volunteer hike leader.
  • The trail is well marked.
  • ECTA staff will be posted along the route as well.
  • Please stay with the group.
  • Let the leader know if you are having any difficulty.
  • Hiking shoes are strongly recommended.
  • Hiking poles are handy and make it easy on the knees.
  • Bring a water bottle filled with drinking water.
  • Choose the hike that suits you best.
  • Leave no trace and take only pictures.
