Fundraising Tips
Be Familiar with your organization, the ECTA
- ECTA mission statement (to develop, maintain & preserve the ECT while respecting the integrity of our natural environment, the needs of our communities, and delivering a high quality wilderness hiking experience...)
- The ECTA is a CRA registered charity.
- Suggest a donation amount and remind the potential donor that they get a tax receipt for money donations equal to or over $10.
- ECTA is a volunteer based and member supported association.
Why we are Fundraising
- we are required to raise funds for trail maintenance, restoration and development to successfully gain federal & provincial funding support
- development of Trail involves layout, structures such as boardwalk over wet areas, run-off bars, rock cages to prevent erosion
- maintenance of Trail involves removing fallen trees on the Trail, re-routes for erosion, repair of wooden bridges
- trail restoration involves, restoring and rebuilding older sections of the trail (Fort Amherst to Cappahayden) to the East Coast Trail standard for trail development.
Why you should consider a Donation
- the East Coast Trail is gorgeous
- it is OURS
- walking or hiking the Trail enhances mental and physical health and well-being
- we cannot survive as a Trail without your membership and support
- our fundraising goal for Tely Hike 2011 is $100,000.
- refer to the donor recognition program to see how appreciate our donors
How to Donate
- give money to the fund raiser (write your name & address clearly)
- if you are not familiar with the Trail, check out our website
- become/renew your membership (also fully tax receipted)
- donate your time as a volunteer (maintenance; events; many skills are needed)
More Tips on Seeking Donations
- no donation gift is too small
- anyone any age can support the Trail
- some potential donors may want to be given a suggested donation (tax receipt starts at $10 but we also accept large amounts of cash)
- your friends, peers, family and work companions may be a good place to start
- your company may be interested in donating - refer your boss to the website for corporate recognition
- gather a team of up to 10 persons (give your team a name) and then fund raise as a team; see the registration page on how to register and the prizes page for fundraising inspiration.
